Invite to New Series: Parent Traps
Huntington Beach Church invites you to join us for a new sermon series. http://hbchurch.net/sermons/series/the-parent-trap/
Parents today feel caught in a lot of traps that they don’t know how to escape. For example, they feel caught in an education trap. They aren't always crazy about public schools but don't feel like they can afford a private school or Christian school. And they can’t even fathom the idea of homeschooling.
And they feel caught in a peer pressure trap. They’re surrounded by what other parents are doing, allowing and buying. They don’t want their kid to have a smartphone yet, but every other kid in their grade has one. They don’t want their child to see that movie, but everyone else in their class is talking about it. They’re not crazy about the latest fashions, but that’s all that is being sold in the stores.
They know what they feel is best to do, but everywhere they turn, they are confronted with what everybody else is doing. So, it’s either swim upstream or go with the current. Do one and you’re weird and risk making your kid feel weird, do the other, and it feels like you’re compromising your values.
And then there’s the whole religion thing. You want your kids to follow what you believe is right and true, but you also want them to decide for themselves. You don’t want to shove anything down their throat, but you also don’t want them getting sold a bill of goods on the internet and ending up on a plane to a foreign country to join up with ISIS.
It’s like everywhere you turn as a parent, you feel trapped between a rock and a hard place. You feel caught between what you want to do, and what you feel like you have no choice but to do.
That’s what this sermon series is going to explore. We are going to discuss the four leading parent traps of our day and what wisdom the Bible would offer. I’m also going to give you my best counsel as not only a pastor but as a father of three. I am someone who has tried to apply the Bible’s wisdom for two decades of parenting.
Please join us this Sunday. We start promptly at 10:50 AM.
Blessings to you,
